The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange dropped 365 points, or 2.2 percent, to 16,502, on poor industrial growth data, and plunging global markets, Monday. The Sensex had tumbled 474 points at the day's low, and fallen 199 points at the day's high. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange fell 113 points, or 2.2 percent, to 4,947. In the broader market, the BSE Midcap index fell 1.8 percent, and the Smallcap index lost 1.9 percent.Market breadth was weak on the BSE, with almost 5 losers for every 2 gainers. The BSE clocked a turnover of 2,254 crore rupees on its cash segment.All the BSE sectoral indices ended in the red. The Consunmer Durables and the Metal indices were the biggest losers, tumbling 3.4%, each. The IT index slid 3.3%; the Realty and the Teck indices and the Bankex lost 3.1%, each; the Auto index shed 2.5%; the Capital Goods and the Power indices fell about 2%, each; the Oil and Gas and the PSU indices shed 1.6%; each; the Healthcare index lost 0.5%; and the FMCG,which fell the least, declined 0.2%.Index heavyweight Reliance Industries slid 2.3%. ONGC fell 0.2%.In power stocks, Tata Power fell 1% and hit a 52-week low. NTPC fell 0.9% and also hit a 52-week low.Consumer durables stocks fell. Blue Star, Rajesh Exports, Gitanjali Gems and Titan Industries declined between 0.1% and 5.5%.Capital goods shares also lost ground after the latest IIP data. Larsen & Toubro, Praj Industries, ABB, Siemens, Thermax, BHEL and Punj Lloyd lost between 0.5% and 5.5%.Bank stocks skidded across the board. ICICI Bank plunged 3.8%, HDFC Bank declined 0.8%, and SBI shed 4.4%. Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank dropped between 0.7% and 2.7%.But FMCG major, Hindustan Unilever jumped 3.7% and was the top gainer from the Sensex pack. The stock hit a record high of 348 rupees, today.Metal stocks fell across the board. Sterlite, Hindustan Zinc, Jindal Steel & Power, Hindalco, Bhushan Steel, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, SAIL and Nalco shed between 1.3% and 5%.Realty stocks plunged. So DLF, HDIL, Indiabulls Real Estate, Phoenix Mills and Unitech dropped between 1.8% and 6.6%. Software majors extended recent steep losses. Infosys declined 3.2%, TCS fell 2.5%, and Wipro slumped 4.2%. HCL Tech, iGate Patni and Tech Mahindra shed between 1.3% and 6.8%.
