The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by about 52 points to 16863 in the afternoon trade at 1300 hrs on Monday. In the opening trade it gained 57 points but later shed its early gains. Similarly, Nifty of National Stocks exchange was trading flat at 4976. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's index Hang Seng was up 1.75 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei rose by 0.70 per cent higher in the morning trade.
