The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 74 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 16,320, in opening trade, today. But the Sensex later surrendered all its initial gains, and stood 73 points, or 0.5 percent in the red, at 16,183, a short while ago. Stock markets in Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan were down by between 0.1 percent and 1 percent, today. But the US Dow Jones Industrial average had gained 0.9 per cent, overnight.
