Sensex recovers from early losses; up 16 points in afternoon deals

Recovering from initial losses, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange stood 16 points, or 0.1 per cent in positive territory, at 19,342 in afternoon deals, a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, however, the Sensex had opened with a loss of 26 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 19,300, on continued selling by investors, amid largely declining regional bourses.Key stock indices in China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan had posted losses of upto 0.5 percent, today, on concerns that strength in the Chinese property market may lead Beijing to tighten monetary policy. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.3 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
