The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed with a good gain of 217 points, or 1.1 percent, at 19,865, on Thursday, after the Reserve Bank kept its short-term lending and borrowing rates unchanged, but reduced the Statutory Liquidity Ratio. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange rose 56 points, or 1 percent, to 5,949. Stock markets in China, Hong Kong and South Korea fell between 0.4 percent and 1.3 percent, while the key stock indices in Japan and Singapore ended flat.
