Sensex rebounds

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 64 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 17,527, in opening trade, today, on bargain- hunting by investors. Later, disappointing industrial output data for December led to the Sensex losing all its initial gains, and slip into the red. However, the Sensex again rebounded, to stand a modest 25 points, or 0.1 percent in the positive zone, at 17,488, in afternoon deals, amid volatile trade, a short while ago. The key benchmark indices in Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan were down by between 0.8 percent and 2.5 percent, today. Japan's market was closed for a holiday. The US Dow Jones Industrial average had gained 0.1 per cent, overnight.
