Sensex rallies 729 points, its biggest single day gain in 5 years

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange shot up a mammoth 729 points–its biggest single-day gain in over 5 years–to regain the 28,000-mark, and close at 28,076. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange spurted 217 points, to 8,494. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong and Singapore rose between 0.4 percent and 3.5 percent. The rupee gained 12 paise, to 62.06 against the dollar. But gold declined 230 rupees, to 27,320 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Silver dropped 520 rupees, to 37,280 rupees per kilo. And Brent crude oil fell towards 47 dollars a barrel, while U.S. crude lost 88 cents, to 47.60 dollars a barrel.
