Sensex plunges over 300 points in afternoon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange plunged 295 points, or 1.6 per cent, to 18,248 in early trade, today, dragged down mainly by losses in IT stocks, particularly Infosys, which forecast lower-than-expected sales for the 2013-14 fiscal.Later, the Sensex lost further ground, to stand 327 points, or 1.8 percent in the red, at 18,216 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. The Sensex had gained over 310 points in the previous two trading sessions.Stock markets in Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan had declined between 0.1 percent and 1 percent, today. But the US Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 0.4 per cent, to a new closing high in yesterday's trade.
