Sensex plunges 348 points to close at 19,380

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange plunged 348 points, or 1.8 percent, to close at a new three-week low of 19,380, on monday, ahead of current account deficit data, and as global markets fell, amid concerns that the US government could be heading for a shutdown. The Nifty fell 98 points, or 1.7 percent, to 5,735. Stock markets in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore declined between 0.7 percent and 2.1 percent. The rupee fell 9 paise, to an almost one-week low of 62.60 against the dollar. Gold slipped 315 rupees, to 30,885 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Silver declined 100 rupees, to 49,580 rupees per kilo.And Brent crude oil futures slipped toward 107 dollars a barrel, while US crude dropped 1.42 dollars, to 101.45 dollars a barrel.
