Sensex pares gains

Continuing its massive rally, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange surged 135 points, to regain the magical 20,000-level after almost 32 months, at 20,042, in opening trade, today, on across-the-board buying interest. But the Sensex later pared its gains, and stood a more modest 49 points, or 0.3 percent in the green, at 19,955, a short while ago. Similarly, the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange, which had risen 36 points, to cross the crucial 6,000 point level, at 6,017 in the morning, later stood 13 points, or 0.2 percent in the green,at 5,993. Sustained inflows of overseas funds, and a fast growing economy helped lift the domestic markets.Other Asian bourses in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and Taiwan were trading mixed, today. Over on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 1.4 percent, overnight.
