Stock markets opened on a positive note on the first trading day of 2014. The benchmark BSE Sensex gained 53 points to 21,223 in early trade today on increased buying by funds and retail investors.The broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose 13 points to 6,317.The US Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at record high by gaining 0.44 per cent in yesterday's trade.
