Sensex nears 20K mark; up by 135 pts at 1350 hrs

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rebounded after a weak opening, to gain 135 points, or 0.7 percent, to 19,996, a short while ago. Earlier, the Sensex had lost 28 points in early trade. Most other Asian stock markets also recovered, today, after a weak start triggered by a jump in U.S. unemployment claims. The key stock indices in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Indonesia were up by between 0.2 percent and 1.5 percent.
