Sensex losses 54 points in opening trade

The BSE benchmark Sensex lost nearly 54 points in opening trade today on fresh selling by funds and retail investors amid a subdued trend on other Asian bourses. The 30-share barometer, which gained 52 points in the previous session, fell to 18,760 within the first few minutes of trade, with realty, banking, capital goods, oil and gas and metal stocks coming under pressure. Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index declined by nearly 20 points, to 5,630.
