Giving up all its initial gains, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange had lost 98 points, or 0.5 percent, to stand at 19,796 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. But earlier in the morning, the Sensex had gained 88 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 19,982, on renewed buying by investors. Stock markets in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea had gained between 0.1 percent and 0.7 percent, today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.4 per cent higher in yesterday's trade.
