The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange failed to maintain its initial gains, and had declined 219 points to 19,701 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. The Sensex fell on profit-booking by investors ahead of the expiry of the monthly derivatives contracts, and amid weak global markets. But earlier, in morning trade, the Sensex had gained 58 points, to 19,978 on selective buying by investors.
