Sensex loses over 140 points in afternoon trade

At the stock markets, giving up all its initial gains, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange had lost 144 points, to 20,716 in afternoon trade, a short while ago, on concerns about a slowdown in foreign fund inflows, following the US Federal Reserve's announcement.Earlier in the morning, however, the Sensex had gained 158 points, to 21,017 on buying by funds and retail investors.Other Asian markets in Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Singapore were trading mixed, today. But Wall Street's Dow Jones Industrial Average had rallied 1.8 per cent, to an all-time closing high in yesterday's trade, after the Fed's announcement, which also indicated that its key interest rate would stay at rock bottom even longer than previously promised. Wall Street's S&P 500 had gained 1.7 percent, to also finish at a record closing high.
