Sensex loses nearly 300 points in afternoon trade

At the stock markets, selling pressure intensified in afternoon trade, and the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange had dropped 295 points, or 1.4 percent, to 20,340 a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, the Sensex had declined 162 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 20,473 on sustained selling by funds, amid falling regional bourses.Stock markets in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and South Korea had lost between 0.5 percent and 1.3 percent, today. Wall Street's Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.4 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
