The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange, which had opened 122 points higher, later gave up all its intial gains, and stood 53 points, or 0.3 percent in the red, at 19,407, a short while ago. Asian markets in Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan were up by between 0.5 percent and 1 percent, on reports showing improved US employment and consumer sentiment, and on higher commodity prices. In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had surged 1.4 per cent, overnight.
