Paring all its early losses, the Sensex rose 36 points, or 0.2 percent, to 16,704, in intra-day trade, today, on fresh hopes of interest rate cut by the RBI, amid weak industrial production data. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange gained 14 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,069 points. Key indices in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and China slipped between 0.3 percent and 1 percent in intra-day trade today.The rupee fell further by 17 paise to 55.91 rupees against the US dollar on persistent demand for the American currency from banks as it firmed against other currencies as well amid weak equity markets. The rupee resumed lower by 11 paise at 55.80 rupees per dollar as against the last closing level of 55.74 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) Market.
