Giving up most of its initial gains, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange stood 22 points, or 0.1 per cent in positive territory, at 19,410 in volatile afternoon trade, a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, however, the Sensex had opened with a strong gain of 209 points, or 1.1 per cent, at 19,597, on continued buying by funds and retail investors, triggered by some impressive corporate earnings and firm regional bourses. Stock markets in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea had climbed between 0.1 percent and 1.4 per cent, today, as US housing sales rose. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.7 per cent higher in yesterday's trade.
