Sensex gains over 70pts in noon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 99 points to again cross the 16,000-mark, at 16,087 in early trade, today, on fresh buying by funds and retail investors. The Sensex rose on hopes of a rate cut by the Reserve Bank, the rupee's recovery in the forex market, and amid firm Asian bourses. Later, the Sensex remained largely steady and stood 73 points in the green, at 16,062 in afternoon deals, a short while ago.Key stock indices in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore were up by between 0.2 percent and 2 percent, today, as investors hoped that policy makers would step in to stem growing concerns about the global economy. But the US Dow Jones Industrial Average had fallen 0.1 per cent, yesterday.
