The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange jumped 229 points, to 17,700, in early trade, this morning, on renewed buying by investors, amid firm global bourses. Remaining firm, the Sensex stood 231 points, or 1.3 percent in the green, at 17,702, a short while ago. Other Asian markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea were up by between 0.1 percent and 2.8 percent, today, as US retail sales grew at the fastest pace in four years, and as investors speculated that European banks will pass the stress tests. US stocks had logged their best one-day gain in about six weeks, overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average surging 2.8 percent.
