Sensex gains over 150pts in noon trade; Rupee up 24 paise to 54.75 against US dollar

Opening the first day of 2013 on a promising note, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 132 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 19,559 in early trade, today, on renewed buying by funds and retail investors. Later, the Sensex gained further ground, to stand 157 points, or 0.8 per cent in the green, at 19,584 in afternoon deals, a short while ago. Key regional stock markets are closed for a public holiday, today. But Wall Street's Dow Jones Industrial Average had jumped 1.3 per cent in yesterday's trade.
