Sensex gains over 100 points in noon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 84 points to 16,032 in early trade, today, with shares of oil marketing companies leading the recovery, amid buying by funds and retail investors at prevailing lower levels. Afterwards, the Sensex advanced further, and at one stage had gained over 200 points. But the Sensex later pared its gains, to stand 119 points in the positive zone, at 16,067 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. The 30-share Sensex had lost 235 points in the previous two trading sessions. But stock markets in Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan were down by between 0.1 percent and 0.7 percent, today, after data showed a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing activity, and after European leaders remained divided on steps to address the region's debt crisis.
