Sensex gains nearly 196 pts

The Indian markets today closed in the green. The benchmark index at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 18,531.28 gaining 195.49 points. Despite opening in the red and touching a low of 18,280.70, the Sensex moved upwards with the support from positive global cues. Shares of FMCG, Healthcare and Metal witnessed buying interest. Jaiprakash Associates, ITC, Jindal Steel, Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto were the top Sensex gainers, while Reliance Communications, Infosys and HDFC were the top losers. The National Stock Exchange too opened in the red, touching a low of 5,472.15, but soon moved in the positive zone. The Nifty finally closed at 5544.75 with a gain of 58.60 points. The Midcap and Smallcap indices closed in the green. The Midcap index closed at 6902.58, with a gain of 58.42 points. The Smallcap index closed at 8368.22, gaining 32.79 points.
