The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange surged by 160 points in late morning trade today on sustained buying in FMCG, metal, consumer durable, healthcare andbanking sectors. The 30-share index which rose 133 points in its opening session, gained 160 points to trade at 18,779 when reports last came in.Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved 41 points up to 5,512 a short while ago.
