Sensex gains almost 100 points in afternoon trade

Recovering from initial losses, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange stood 97 points, or 0.5 percent in positive territory, at 19,617 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, however, the Sensex had opened with a loss of 82 points, or 0.4 percent, at 19,438, tracking a weak trend in the Asian region.Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and South Korea had lost between 0.1 percent and 1.6 percent, today. But the US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.5 per cent higher in yesterday's trade.
