Sensex gains 76 points in afternoon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 59 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 16,841, in opening trade, this morning, on renewed buying by funds at lower levels. Remaining firm, the Sensex stood 76 points, or 0.5 percent in the green, at 16,857, a short while ago. Other Asian bourses in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong all posted modest gains, today, after US central bank chairman Ben Bernanke said US economic recovery is intact.
