Sensex gains 49 pts in opening trade

The BSE benchmark Sensex gained almost 49 points in opening trade today on the back of bargain buying of select stocks by funds and retail investors. The 30-share index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, which lostover249 points in yesterday's trade, recovered by point 26 per cent, to 18,384 with oil and gas, PSU, capital goods and technology sector stocks staging a partial recovery. Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index also moved up by over 17 points, to 5,503 point. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the US ended point 52 per cent higher in yesterday's trade.
