Sensex gains 44 points in afternoon deals

Recovering from early losses, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange stood 44 points in positive territory, at 17,139 in afternoon deals a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, however, the Sensex had dropped 67 points to 17,027, on continued selling by funds, in line with weak regional bourses.Other Asian markets in Japan, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan were down by between 0.1 percent and 1.7 percent, today, on renewed concerns about the euro zone's debt crisis.
