Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 283 points in late morning deals to trade at 18,279 as the rupee recovered against the dollar. Earlier, the 30 share index jumped over 179 points to 18,175 in opening trade. The wide based National Stock Exchange Nifty also moved up by 78 points to 5363.
