Sensex gains 25 points

Recovering from initial losses, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange stood a modest 25 points, or 0.1 per cent in positive territory, at 18,531 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, however, the Sensex had opened 44 points, or 0.2 per cent in the red, at 18,462, as funds and retail investors booked profits after yesterday's gains. Key stock indices in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea were trading mixed, today. In the US market, which resumed after a two-day shutdown forced by superstorm, Sandy, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.1 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
