The Sensex surged by 230 points to 28,973 in early session today, propped up by fresh buying triggered by positive GDP data for the December quarter and favourable Asian cues. The NSE Nifty gained 62 points to 8,941. In other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.08 per cent and Japan's Nikkei went up 0.54 per cent, while Shanghai Composite index rose 0.40 per cent in early trade today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, ended 0.12 per cent lower yesterday.
