Sensex gains 195 points in afternoon trade

Trimming its initial gains, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange still stood a good 195 points, or 1 percent in the positive zone, at 20,468 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, the Sensex had rallied 287 points, or 1.4 percent, to 20,560, led by gains in IT stocks, after Infosys revised upwards its guidance for the 2013-14 fiscal. Firm global markets also buoyed investor sentiment. The 30-share Sensex had gained 378 points in the previous three trading sessions. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia had gained between 0.1 percent and 1.5 percent, today, on hopes that US lawmakers will lift the debt limit and avoid a default. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had shot up 2.2 per cent in yesterday's trade.
