Sensex gains 156 points in afternoon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange opened 165 points, or 0.8 per cent higher, at 19,635, this morning, on continued buying interest, spurred by a normal monsoon forecast, and firm regional bourses.Later, after gaining well over 200 points, the Sensex receded somewhat, to stand 156 points, or 0.8 per cent in positive territory, at 19,627, in afternoon trade, a short while ago. The Sensex has already gained nearly 380 points in the last two sessions. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore were up by between 0.6 percent and 1.3 percent, today. Over in the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has surged 1.5 per cent, overnight.
