Sensex gains 150 points in afternoon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 114 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 17,054, in opening trade, this morning, on continued buying by investors, ahead of the Reserve Bank's monetary policy announcement. Soon after the RBI hiked the repo rate, the Sensex lost ground, and briefly slipped into the red. But it again recovered, to stand 151 points, or 0.9 percent in positive territory, at 17,091, in afternoon trade, a short while ago.Other Asian markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea were trading mixed, today.In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Index had gained 0.9 per cent, overnight.
