The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 135 points to a fresh 33-month high of 20,543 on strong foreign fund inflows, amid optimism about encouraging quarterly corporate earnings, and firm global markets, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange rose 41 points to 6,186. Stock markets in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore rose between 1 percent and 1.8 percent, buoyed by growing expectations that the US central bank will take steps to bolster the US economy following a surprise rate cut by the Bank of Japan.The Midcap and Smallcap indices also closed in the green. The Midcap index closed at 8426 with a gain of 91.64 points. The Smallcap index closed at 10,636.36 with a gain of 79.58 points.
