Sensex gains 127 points in opening trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 127 points, to 18,135 in opening trade, on Monday morning, as investors bought fundamentally strong stocks at bargain prices. But the Sensex later pared its gains, to stand a more modest 45 points, or 0.3 percent in the green, at 18,053, a short while ago. Elsewhere in Asia, the key stock indices in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore were trading mixed, today. The market in China remained shut for a holiday. Over in the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 0.3 per cent in Friday's session.
