Sensex gains 117 points

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 77 points to 16,229 in early trade today on continued buying by funds and retail investors amid some encouraging quarterly corporate results and positive regional bourses.Later, the Sensex firmed up further, and stood 117 points in the green at 16,270 in afternoon deals.Key stock indices in Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea were up by between 0.1 per cent and 0.8 per cent today after G8 leaders backed keeping Greece in the euro zone and vowed to take all steps necessary to combat financial turmoil.
