Sensex gains 114 pts in opening trade

The BSE benchmark Sensex opened over 114 points higher in opening trade today on the back of increased buying by foreign funds and retail investors ahead of Budget for 2011-12. The 30-share index of the Bombay Stock Exchange rose by another 114 points, or 0.64 per cent, to 17,815 in the first few minutes of trade today.Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index moved up by 33 points, or 0.62 per cent, to 5,337.Brokers said continued buying by funds and retail investors on expectations of an investor-friendly Budget influenced the trading sentiment.Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up by 0.39 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei index was down 0.22 per cent in early trade today.
