The BSE 30-share Sensex ended today at 17,102 with 108 points gain. The Sensex remained firm above the 17,000 mark throughout the day. The Sensex which opened at 17,035, touched the intra day high and low of 17187.55 and 17034.92 respectively. National Stock Exchange's Nifty advanced 35 points up at 5124, above the psychological levels of 5115. Mahindra & Mahindra soared by 4 per cent to Rs 1,122. It was followed by Hero Honda, ITC, ICICI Bank and ACC, up 2-3% each at Rs 1,913, Rs 250, Rs 922 and Rs 989, respectively. Among the losers , Bharti Airtel slipped 2% to Rs 292. Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Infrastructure and Hindalco were down 1 per cent each. The BSE Midcap index rose by 47.88 points at 6,783 while BSE Smallcap rose by 92.23 points at 8,591.87.
