Sensex falls over 98 points in opening trade

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by over 98 points in the opening trade today. The 30-share index, which had gained nearly 95 points in the past two sessions, was quoted at 16,187 points, down 98 points, or 0.60 per cent over the previous close. The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty dipped by 35.40 points, or 0.72 per cent to to 4,834 points. Marketmen said sentiments were mainly dampened by weak trends on the global markets after a fall in the US consumer confidence and the German business confidence.
