Sensex falls over 60 points in afternoon trade

The BSE benchmark Sensex fell for the second straight day today on sustained selling by funds amid a mixed trend in other Asian markets. The 30-share barometer fell by 62 points to 19,161 in early trade. Stocks of oil and gas, consumer durables, capital goods and banking sectors were major losers, pulling down the benchmark Sensex.It marginaly recovered in noon trade and was traded 47 points down at 19,175. But it further fell and it was trading 64 points down at 19, 161 a short while ago.Similarty, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index, Nifty also dropped 17 points to 5,795.In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index traded lower by 0.18 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei Index rose 1.25 per cent, in early trade.The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.91 per cent higher in yesterday's trade.
