Sensex falls by 24 points in opening trade

The BSE benchmark Sensex fell by almost 24 points in the opening trade today.The 30-share barometer, which has gained nearly 386 points in the last five sessions, declined by 23.84 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 18,794. with stocks of capital goods, FMCG and banking sectors leading the fall.Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shed 9.85 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 5,715.In Asia, Japan's Nikkei Index was down 0.45 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index shed 0.43 per cent in early trade today.The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.02 per cent higher in Tuesday's trade.
