Sensex falls 257 points to slip below 27,000 mark

The domestic stock markets dropped below the 27,000 mark, today, amid subdued Asian and European markets, while the rupee snapped a five session winning streak against the dollar. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange slumped 257 points, or 1 percent, to close at 26,763. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange dropped 69 points, to 8,204.Key stock markets in Japan, South Korea and Singapore all ended with losses. Major bourses in the UK, Germany and France also showed significant weakness. At the forex market, the rupee depreciated 6 paise, to 66.71 against the dollar. And Brent crude oil futures hit a 2016 high of 52.86 dollars a barrel, before easing.
