Sensex falls 166 pts in noon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange declined 166 points, or 0.9 per cent, to 18,736 in early trade, this morning, as funds and retail investors booked profits after six sessions of gains, amid weak global markets. Later, the Sensex partially recovered from its losses, to stand 97 points, or 0.5 percent in the red, at 18,805 in afternoon deals, a short while ago. The Sensex had had surged over 470 points in the last six trading sessions. Other Asian markets Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Indonesia had lost between 0.8 percent and 1.7 percent, today, on worries about the upcoming fiscal challenges for Washington. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had plunged 2.4 per cent in yesterday's trade.
