The BSE benchmark Sensex was trading 162 points down at 16,257 points a short while ago. It fell by 74 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 16,346 points in early trade today. The 30-share barometer had lost almost 493 points in the previous three sessions. It declined further today on selling by funds and retail investors ahead of industrial output data, amid a mixed trend on Asian bourses. In a similar fashion, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index was also trading 51 points down at 4,915 points a shortwhile ago. It declined by 26 points, or 0.51 per cent, to 4,940 points in the early trade.
