A smart recovery in late trade, after big initial losses, helped the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange close with a modest loss of 49 points, or 0.3 percent, at 17,088, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange fell 24 points, or 0.5 percent, to 5,125. Trading sentiment was clouded by fears that Greece's debt woes might spread to other euro-zone countries. Stock markets in China, Hong Kong, and Singapore ended mixed.
