Sensex ends with a marginal gain

Rising for the fourth straight day, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange ended with a slim gain of 15 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 17,701, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange rose 4 points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,282. Stock markets in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore rose between 0.5 percent and 1 per cent. The rupee appreciated 40 paise, to close at a 15-month high of 45.84 against the dollar. Gold shed 80 rupees, to 17,060 rupees per ten grams in Delhi, while crude oil futures fell 20 cents, to 81.57 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
