The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed 170 points, or 1 per cent higher, at 16,742, today, with telecom and auto stocks leading the gains. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange rose 50 points, or 1 percent, to 5,020. Other Asian markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore ended mixed.
